Aussie screen icon Bryan Brown and one-time screen sex symbol Greta Scacchi on set in Currumbin

Currumbin beachfront has been taken over by film crews producing a brand new television series starring Aussie acting royalty Bryan Brown - and locals are lapping up the limelight.

IT’S lights, camera, action down at Currumbin beachfront where Aussie acting royalty Bryan Brown - along with co-star and former screen siren Greta Scacchi are shooting a major television series, Darby and Joan.

Crews set up production on the picturesque sandy strip earlier this week and have prominently featured Currumbin Vikings SLSC and retail shops along Pacific Parade.

Vikings CEO Michael Sullivan said he was thrilled to showcase the surf club and it was a “no-brainer” to take advantage of Currumbin’s “gorgeous” location.

“There’s been plenty of buzz around from locals and the community has been incredibly welcoming to the crew and actors,” he said.

“The southern Gold Coast has attracted loads of cinematic talent in recent years and we hope to host a number of film and television productions in the years to come.

“Currumbin is one of the best spots in the world and we were thrilled to have our little club on Elephant Rock feature in the series.”

Mr Sullivan said a number of scenes were shot in the surf club’s main restaurant and staff were “buzzing” to have acting royalty Bryan Brown on set.

Brown is playing a retired cop with a loyal dog as his only company and after meeting widowed English nurse Scacchi theyembark on a journey across the outback of northern Australia.

The romantic drama series is set to air on new streaming platform Acorn TV, a subsidiary of US entertainment giant AMC networks.
