A man has been fined over an alleged dangerous driving incident near the Gold Coast’s Star Casino in which two officers were struck and left in hospital.
Police were conducting patrols near Casino Dr, Broadbeach about 6pm on November 5 when they allegedly heard loud revving, screeching, and heavy acceleration coming from a carpark.
They approached a silver Toyota Ute and directed the driver to stop.
“After an initial engagement, the vehicle accelerated forward, making contact with one officer,” a Queensland Police Service (QPS) spokesman said in a statement.
“The vehicle proceeded to exit the car park onto Casino Drive, striking the hand of a second officer in the process. The suspect vehicle drove on the wrong side of the road, causing pedestrians to jump out of the way.”
Both of the officers involved were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital where they received treatment for minor injuries.
Investigations by police tracked the vehicle as it headed northbound towards Logan. Following a public appeal for information, the alleged driver of the ute was identified.
A 28-year-old man from Algester, south of Brisbane, was issued with a Traffic Infringement Notice of $645 for driving without due care and attention.
