A Charlemont woman is pleading for information to catch the culprit of a CBD hit-run crash who she says fled on the wrong side of the road and through red lights.
Ashlea Ketis, 28, was behind the wheel of her car and stopped at the intersection of Eastern Beach Rd and Yarra St on May 1 when the frightening crash took place with a white two-door Toyota ute about 5.40pm.
“I saw this white ute... he’s taken the corner incredibly quick, too wide and way too fast. As he’s taken the corner he’s side swiped (my car),” Ms Ketis told the Addy.
“He’s run a red light at 5.30pm on a Monday night. It was busy down there; there were pedestrians around.
“It’s not just a hit and run in a car park, he’s endangered multiple lives.
“It’s despicable; it’s the lowest of the low to cause damage to someone else’s property, give them a serious fright and potentially injure someone, and not stop to see if that person was ok.”
Ms Ketis said the driver of the ute ran red lights at the Moorabool St-Eastern Beach Rd and Moorabool St-Brougham St intersections to get away.
“The offender proceeded to drive ... into oncoming traffic causing many other motorists to be pushed off the road.”
Ms Ketis said the driver of the ute was a young man who had light brown, almost blonde, hair, and the ute had a flat silver tray with silver tool boxes on it.
She said the man had shaggy hair and was wearing a flannel shirt at the time of the incident.
“If anyone has any information at all please come forward (and contact police). I am incredibly shaken and am now looking at paying for the cost out of my own pocket.”
Ms Ketis said her car was left with about $5000 worth of damage after the incident and her insurance excess would cost $1000.
“The more I talk to people (about the incident) the more I realise how incredibly dangerous it was not only for me but other people.
“In a sense I’ve lost my confidence on the roads. I wasn’t doing anything wrong; I was sitting at a red light. You feel really helpless.”
She said it was possible the driver was a P-plater given a flash of green she saw on the windscreen of the car after it side swiped her car.
The registration of the ute involved in the incident could not be read on CCTV captured of the incident, Ms Ketis said.
Police were contacted for comment about the incident which Ms Ketis said officers were investigating.
