A Whittington man accused of fleeing the scene of an alleged hit-run in Marshall last month has fronted court.

Jesse Reynolds, 23, was remanded in custody after he was arrested on Monday.

He fronted the Geelong Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning where he made no application for bail.

Mr Reynolds was allegedly behind the wheel of a red Holden Commodore when it collided with a silver Mazda hatchback on Barwarre Rd about 6pm on July 17.

It’s alleged Mr Reynolds fled the scene, with CCTV from nearby homes showing him calmly walking away from the collision.

The driver of the Mazda, a 42-year-old mother and school teacher from Armstrong Creek, was flown to hospital in a critical condition.

Two passengers inside the Commodore, a 34-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman both from Grovedale, were also taken to hospital.

Mr Reynolds appeared in court wearing a grey jumper and showed little emotion throughout the hearing.

A number of his family members were also present for the remand hearing.

The court heard this was Mr Reynolds’ first time in custody.

Mr Reynolds’ lawyer, Pat Byrne, said he would need time to prepare for a filing hearing.

“For a matter that is this complex, we are not in a position to go through all the details and nuances,” he said.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Alex Turner said the allegations were severe.

Mr Byrne told the court there were a number of custody management issues in relation to Mr Reynolds, including that he was withdrawing from drugs and had suffered injuries to his hands and left leg.

Magistrate Simon Guthrie told Mr Reynolds: “There is a lot going on and your counsel will no doubt bring you up to speed.”

“First time in custody, that must be stressful (and a) bit overwhelming,” he said.

The court heard the prosecution must hand up their brief of evidence by September 16.

Mr Reynolds will front court again on August 27 prior to a committal mention on November 5.
