The Bellarine Peninsula will once again host the Vic Open golf tournament, which will return in February next year.
Acting Victorian Major Events Minister Ben Carroll announced the competition would run from February 1 to 4 at the 13th Beach Golf Links.
The event, run by Golf Australia, is in its 11th year and will involve male and female players competing for equal prizemoney on the same course at the same time.
Mr Carroll said more than 200 men and women would take part in the 2024 edition.
“The Vic Open remains an important tournament for our golf superstars, and it’s fantastic that it will return to the sparkling Bellarine Peninsula next February,” Mr Carroll said.
“We know how much this tournament means to the local community and hosting it at 13th Beach will encourage fans and visitors alike to experience all this beautiful region has to offer.”
Mr Carroll said the state government “ensured” equal prizemoney was offered at the tournament. The male and female events will each have $420,000 up for grabs.
The 2024 Vic Open will coincide with the Victorian Inclusive Championship for golfers with a disability, and the Australian Wheelchair Golf Championship.
Karen Lunn, chief executive of the WPGA Tour of Australasia, said: “Our players love coming back to 13th Beach every year and competing in front of the wonderful galleries who turn out to enjoy seeing the women’s and men’s tournaments, plus the all-abilities, contested side by side.”
Golf generates $883m for the state’s economy and supports 6900 jobs, Mr Carroll said.
