Two people have been taken to hospital and police are investigating after a vehicle collision on the Princes Hwy on Thursday.
A police spokeswoman said a multi-vehicle collision in Avalon was being investigated.
“It is believed a 43-year-old truck driver was travelling along the Princes Hwy when he lost control and struck two vehicles, about 4pm,” the spokeswoman said.
“He then continued driving on the same road, before hitting a ute and forcing it to roll on its roof.
“No one was injured.
“A 43-year-old Dandenong man was arrested at the scene and is currently assisting police with their inquiries.”
The incident caused traffic issues for people commuting from Geelong to Melbourne, with VicRoads advising in an alert that the two left Melbourne-bound lanes were closed near Beach Rd, due to the collision.
“Two right lanes are open,” the alert said.
“Emergency services are attending.
“Please merge with caution and be mindful of people walking near the road way.
“Motorists may consider avoiding the Beach Rd Melbourne-bound entry ramp and use Avalon Rd or Little River Rd instead.”
A utility vehicle could be seen on its roof at about 5pm.
An onlooker reported the van had been damaged severely on its left hand side.
A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesperson said crews were called to a collision on one of the on-ramps of the Princes Hwy, but no rescue was required.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said paramedics were called to the incident in Avalon at about 3.55pm.
“Two people have been transported to Geelong University Hospital,” she said.
A spokeswoman for Barwon Health on Friday morning said one of the people hospitalised was discharged on Thursday, and the second was expected to be discharged on Friday.
