A 26-year-old man who tailgated a terrified female driver in an act of road rage also told the woman his “missus” would bash her and “f--- her up”.
Tyson Graf pleaded guilty in the Geelong Magistrates Court on Wednesday to threatening to inflict serious injury.
Graf was driving in Grovedale when he approached a roundabout and began to tailgate a woman after she gave way to him on the afternoon of February 18 last year because she was a “little up his arse”.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Denise Frame said Graf pulled over, drove behind the victim, turned his lights on and off, and also shone his high beams at her.
While at an intersection of Torquay Rd, Graf got out of his car, approached the passenger side of the victim’s car and yelled threats at her.
The court heard Graf told the victim: “my missus is going to get out of the car and f---ing bash and f--- you up” before getting back into his car and leaving the scene.
The court heard the victim’s heart was racing at the time as Graf was “extremely aggressive”.
“I was extremely intimidated and felt as if I were being stood over, fearing that the male would assault me,” the victim said.
Graf’s lawyer said the incident would have been traumatic for the victim and acknowledged the behaviour was wrong.
She told the court her client went home feeling disgusted at what he had done and said there was no excuse for his behaviour.
Magistrate Ann McGarvie said the experience would have been awful for the victim.
“Road rage is a crazy, craziness that affects drivers who think they are more entitled to the road than anyone else, it is a serious offence,” Ms McGarvie said.
“She would have been horrified and traumatised, you certainly have scared her in what you set out to do,” she said.
Graf was fined $800 and placed on a good behaviour bond for 12 months. No conviction was recorded.
