A husband and wife duo are opening central Geelong’s newest bar this weekend, making it their third hospitality venture in 12 months.
The Other Bar on Moorabool St, owned by Kate Lynch and Tony Thomas, is set to open on Saturday.
Ms Lynch, who grew up in Geelong, has previously worked in hospitality as a chef but took a break from the industry eight years ago.
In September last year, the pair opened a rooftop bar, The Cork, on Pakington St in Geelong West.
Ms Lynch said there was a vacant shop underneath the bar so they opened The Juicy Bar, which serves juices, shakes and smoothie bowls, in March this year.
When she saw the Moorabool St building was available to be leased, she thought, “I’ve got to do something here”.
“It’s a relaxed, friendly, local vibe,” Ms Lynch said.
“It’s not fancy cocktails with smoke coming out … it’s classic and fresh cocktails.
“(We’re serving) wines that you don’t have to think about, you either like it and you drink it or you don’t like it.”
The bar will also serve tapas food with a modern twist including beef cheeks, slow-cooked lamb and octopus.
“It’s all about sharing, having fun and enjoying yourself,” Ms Lynch said.
The venue is situated inside a 1856 Victorian-era building, which the couple has brightened up to breathe new life into the space.
Ms Lynch said her husband has helped to bring her vision across the three venues to life.
She said she loved being back in the hospitality industry.
“I love being around food and talking about food,” she said.
“I love the feeling when someone tells you something you’ve made was enjoyable.”
The Other Bar is located at 198 Moorabool St in Geelong and opens to the public this Saturday.
