The owner of a local milk delivery business has quipped that the thief who stole his refrigerated truck during an early morning delivery must’ve had “calcium deficiency”.

A thief has made off with a milk truck in an early morning heist that left its driver stunned.

The refrigerated Sungold milk truck was making a routine drop off at Queen of the West hotel on Pakington St about 3.30am on Tuesday.

The driver hopped out of the vehicle – as is done countless times every morning – with the motor running, at which point the unknown person hopped into the vehicle and sped off.

Police were immediately called.

Sungold Geelong and Surf Coast owner Matt Nolan said he had never heard of anything like it.

“I’ve dealt with drunks in town, I’ve dealt with all kinds of stuff, but nothing like this,” Mr Nolan said.

“It’s so opportunistic to dive in and take off in the 60 seconds it takes the driver to do the delivery.

“It was insane how it happened.”

Mr Nolan said that despite reporting the stolen vehicle to police, there have been no updates to its whereabouts

“We haven’t had any reports back since,” he said.

Mr Nolan, who was dropping off milk in Teesdale at the time, said the driver contacted him shortly after the incident.

“He was just shocked,” Mr Nolan said.

“He was just like ‘what has happened?’”

Mr Nolan said he had questions for those involved.

“Honestly, why?” he said.

“You must be calcium deficient, definitely not lactose intolerant.”

A Victoria Police spokeswoman confirmed they were investigating the incident.

“Police are investigating after a truck was stolen outside a business in Geelong West on July 9,” she said.

“It’s believed the driver was making a delivery just after 3.30am when an unknown offender(s) jumped into the truck on Pakington St and drove off.

“The vehicle is yet to be located at this stage.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
