A recidivist stalker who walked into a Geelong court and obtained an intervention order against a victim within days of his prison release can finally be unmasked.
Convicted predator Gerard Henderson, 44, appeared in the Geelong Magistrates Court via video link from prison on Tuesday facing 15 criminal charges.
The Geelong Advertiser can reveal he was released from prison on Anzac Day before he was arrested and placed back into custody on May 3 on alleged stalking and harassment offences against a woman.
Henderson has a lengthy and violent criminal history of similar offending against multiple victims.
The court heard on Wednesday he had two intervention orders (IVOs) listed against him, with his lawyer telling Magistrate Gerard Lethbridge he planned to not proceed with one order
“where he was the applicant.”
In relation to the other IVO where he was the respondent, the court heard Mr Henderson had intended to vary the order to allow his lawyer to communicate with the respondent, which this
masthead can reveal is a former victim.
The court was told of concerns and allegations Henderson could attempt to impersonate a lawyer in order to contact the woman, or “have someone else say they are a lawyer communicating with my client”.
The Geelong man was jailed for almost a year over his offending against her, his fourth stint in prison for stalking, threats and ignoring intervention orders.
Henderson’s lawyer said she seeked to adjourn the matter so she could get further instructions.
Magistrate Lethbridge adjourned the matter until July 15 for plea and sentence.
