Rape charge to be dropped against Ocean Grove doctor Shafiul Milky

There has been a sensational development in the case against an Ocean Grove doctor accused of predatory sexual crimes against six women.

A Geelong doctor accused of predatory sexual crimes against six women is set to have a rape charge dropped in a sensational development ahead of his upcoming trial.

Shafiul Milky, 60, is charged with rape of two female patients and the sexual offending against four others when he was a GP at the Peninsula Family Medical Practice in Ocean Grove and with the National Home Doctor Service between 2012 and 2019.

This masthead can now reveal crown prosecutors have decided not to proceed with one count of rape levelled at the doctor by a young mother, and the trial will be moved from Geelong to Melbourne.

It’s understood Dr Milky will argue medical records showed that at the time one of the women was allegedly raped by Dr Milky, during the course of a pap smear, another GP had carried out an examination of the same type on her and that there is no record of Dr Milky carrying out that type of medical examination at the time.

Dr Milky, who was born in Bangladesh and has New Zealand citizenship, is still listed as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and the Medical Board of Australia.

He is expected to face one count of rape, nine counts of sexual assault and four counts of indecent assault at the trial - to be held in Melbourne after the defence was successful in its application to move it from Geelong.

He will next appear for a directions hearing at the County Court on Wednesday.
