Violence outside Geelong nightclub

Shocking vision has emerged of a security guard attacking a woman outside a Geelong nightclub, landing her in hospital.

The assault took place during a conflict outside Lambys Tavern at the corner of Moorabool and Brougham streets early on Sunday morning.

It is understood an employee of S & D Security, which is the hired security contractor for the venue, was involved in the assault.

It is not known whether or not the security guard was on duty during the assault.

S & D Security was contacted but declined to provide a statement, saying it did not want to interfere with an ongoing police investigation.

The employee is believed to have been let go from the company following the brawl.

Video of the altercation was shared to social media shortly after it broke out at about 12.30am on Sunday.

The footage captures the moment a man, wearing a grey shirt and dark pants, strikes the woman several times, causing her to collapse onto the road.

Police believe the man and 18-year-old Curlewis woman were not previously known to each other.

A crowd of onlookers can be heard jeering and laughing throughout the altercation, with another security guard seen trying to break up the fight.

Other men also appear to be fighting in the background.

The woman was taken to hospital for observation but did not sustain any significant injuries.

Investigators are set to interview a 29-year-old Corio man at a later time in relation to the incident.

A manager of Lambys Tavern confirmed staff at the venue were aware of the incident and had seen the video circulating on social media, adding that the venue was also working with police.

Not wishing to comment on the incident itself, Lambys Tavern said it did not condone the actions of its hired security contractor.

“We do not accept the actions (that) happened outside of our venue,” the Lambys Tavern manager said.

“The police will handle this matter with our full support.”

A source close to the young woman said she was doing “okay” on Monday, following what they described as a “traumatic experience” over the weekend.

No arrests had been made or charges laid as of Monday.
