The $3m plans for the new service station on the Bellarine Highway in Moolap are currently before the City of Greater Geelong.

The proposed service station would have a site area of 2.6 hectares, with an inside service centre floor area of 190m squared.

It would feature electric vehicle charging stations, as well as having capacity for truck refuelling.

The service station would be situated at 231-249 Bellarine Highway, which is on the Leopold bound side, which is currently a paddock with only a shed and trees on it.

The paddock sits just metres from where the Bellarine Rail Trail crosses the major arterial road, and is between two clumps of shops.

An AMPOL service station is already up and running just 400m away on the same side of the road.

According to the plans, submitted by Clause 1 Planning, it is common to find service stations in non-built up areas, where they are on major transport routes.

A service station is a common feature found on main roads and is something that most people use, the developers argue.

It’s unclear at this stage who will operate the station.

In January, it was reported a raft of changes had been made to plans for a proposed 24-hour service station on a Cox Rd in Corio.

In November last year, a $3m plan to replace an APCO service station in Leopold was revealed.
