Parts of the Kardinia Aquatic Centre are closed and won’t reopen until Saturday afternoon after faecal matter was found in one of the pools in the Olympic system.
The Olympic system which covers the 50m Olympic pool, the dive pool, the water slide and kids splash pool will be closed until at least 2pm Saturday.
But the FINA 50m pool, closer to Latrobe Terrace, will be kept open because it runs on a separate water circulation system. It was not affected by the incident.
Community Life director Robyn Stevens said a time that the Olympic system would re-open would be put on the Kardinia Aquatic Centre Facebook page.
“In accordance with Department of Health guidelines, the City has closed the Olympic pool system at the Kardinia Aquatic Centre, which services the Olympic pool, dive pool, water slide and kids splash pool,” Ms Stevens said.
“A diarrhoeal faecal incident has occurred in the Olympic pool system, requiring staff to apply a particular treatment regime to ensure the facilities are safe for use by the community.
“Members have reciprocal access to five other Swim Sport & Leisure centres as alternatives: Leisurelink, Waterworld, Lara Aquatic Centre, Bellarine Aquatic & Sports Centre and Splashdown.”
