Omeo man, 49, dies after Lorne house fire

The victim of a fatal house fire earlier this month in the coastal town of Lorne has been identified.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman confirmed a 49-year-old man from Omeo died in the blaze on December 3.
Omeo is more than 500km away from Lorne in eastern Victoria.
“The fire was not suspicious and police are preparing a report for the coroner,” the spokeswoman said on Tuesday.
Emergency services were called to a property on Howard St about 8:30am after multiple reports a shed attached to the property was on fire.
It is understood the property was a holiday home and was available to rent.
A CFA spokesman said crews put out the blaze and located a deceased male at the scene.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said paramedics treated a man in his 40s for upper body injuries and transported him to Lorne hospital.
It is believed the man was trying to help when he was injured in the blaze.
A local resident, who did not wish to be named, told the Geelong Advertiser at the time there was “no urgency” in the neighbours or firefighters at first because it wasn’t known there was a person staying at the home.
“These things don’t happen in Lorne,” he said.
