No matter how big or small weddings take planning and preparation, from spray tans and make-up to the cake and entertainment, all vendors play an important part in the day.

And Geelong has nominated its favourites.

One of the nominees for Geelong’s best celebrants was Paul Nolan who has been in the business for eight years.

“My only regret is that I didn’t enter into the industry earlier – I love it,” he said.

Mr Nolan said what he loved most was delivering a perfect ceremony and setting up the perfect wedding for couples and their families.

“To me, the ceremony sets up the whole day – the whole wedding experience,” he said.

“I always say to my couples that they have a blank canvas and that I will do as they want, prepare a ceremony that is true to who they are and their personalities.

“A ceremony, to me, is a rollercoaster of emotions, fun, laughs and moments of “gee that was beautiful” – trick is finding the balance and at the end, when all said and done, my couple and guests all walk away saying ‘wow, that was great’.”

Mr Nolan said his favourite part of a wedding was when parents walked their child down the aisle.

“To me it is just so special seeing dads and parents loving the moment, taking their time and knowing that their baby has found the great love of their life and being so proud of the person that they have seen them grow into,” he said.

“It always takes me a moment to compose myself – a bit of a softie you may say.”

Alli Carland, owner of Golden Days Tanning in Belmont, said she was honoured to find out her business was nominated as somewhere for brides and grooms, and any wedding guest, to get a tan for the big day.

“Starting a business that’s a bit different is always a gamble so to know people trust us is a really lovely feeling,” she said.

“Not long ago we had a half a dozen men who were a groom and groomsmen for a wedding come in for a spritz so we’re here for the guys and the girls,” she said.

Ms Carland said being a 24 hour salon with contactless, automated self tanning in private booths, she didn’t get to speak to everyone who used the service but she had spoken to a few brides since opening in November 2022.

“The best part about what we do is that convenience and privacy,” she said.

“Lot’s of people aren’t necessarily comfortable getting a spray tan with a person so we’re here for them and we’re here for the night owls, shift workers and the last minute girls and guys.”

Readers can vote for their favourite vendors from a range of categories for the 2025 ultimate wedding guide using the polls below.

The categories are make-up, spray tans, hair styling, nail technicians, car hire, musicians and DJs, venues, caterers, cake bakers and decorators, florists, celebrants, and planners and stylists.

Reader voting to choose our top professionals from each category will close on Tuesday at 9am, with the winner announced soon afterwards.

The Addy will also announce up to five other top-rating professionals from each category from our poll of readers.

We have relaunched the Best of Geelong series to help our readers discover the incredible businesses and individuals in our community. The way it works is in three stages:

1. We put out an initial call for nominations over a two-day period. This happens on our various social media accounts as well as on our website.

2. After nominations close we open the voting stage on our website. The businesses or individuals that received the highest number of nominations will progress to the voting stage. The voting stage runs for one week.

3. Once voting has closed a winner will be announced on our website usually a few days after the voting stage concludes. At the same time we will also announce up to nine other businesses with the highest amount of votes in the poll.

*The Geelong Advertiser reserves the right to disqualify any entries to the Best Of competition.
