Detectives from the Geelong Crime Investigation Unit have charged the 32-year-old man from Hoppers Crossing with burglary.

He has been bailed to front the Geelong Magistrates Court on May 9.

The incident comes just weeks after a man allegedly left a Rippleside home with a suitcase full of electronics and other goods on February 11.

It is understood thousands of dollars worth of valuables, including passports, were stolen from the young family in the burglary, which they claim happened between 9.30am and 11am.

Detectives have contacted local residents seeking CCTV footage.

The bayside suburb has seen a spate of thefts and petty crime over the past 18 months, both reported and unreported to police, with thieves and night-time prowlers targeting its streets.
