A North Geelong man is in hospital after he was stabbed in Pakington St in the early hours of Tuesday.
The 27-year-old was attacked by an unknown person at the corner of Lawton Ave and Pakington St in Geelong West, about 2am.
Police said the victim of then made his way to a house in Saywell St, North Geelong where he called triple-0.
Emergency services attended the North Geelong property after the stabbing victim’s calls, about 1.2km away from the scene of the incident, and took the man to Geelong hospital with
non-life threatening injuries.
A trail of blood, leading from the Pakington Village arcade toward Waratah St, marked the pavement at the scene of the incident.
Police were on scene about 10am on Tuesday, taking notes and scouring for evidence.
Bec Mrad, who works at nearby Poco Cafe, said she arrived at work about 6.30am to find the arcade “trashed”.
She said the fountain had been kicked over and the metal around the fire hose had been dismantled – both in what appeared to be aggressive acts of vandalism.
It’s not known if this was related to the stabbing.
Ms Mrad said she called police to report the vandalism because she had recently had scary encounters with people hanging around the area.
“A man stole our work phone a few months ago, and I hadn’t seen him since but he was back yesterday,” she said.
The up-market arcade is also home to high-end restaurant Tulip and other boutiques.
Lawton Ave resident Richard Coffey said police were “semi-regularly” called to housing commission units on the street, with the last known visit about a month ago when a car was stolen.
He said there were regularly drug-users in the courtyard and on the street, but people didn’t tend to hang around in the middle of the night.
It’s understood a mobile police CCTV camera, still stationed on Lawton Ave on Tuesday, was installed following the alleged car theft.
The site of the stabbing is less than 100m from Truskin Clinic, which was allegedly firebombed earlier this month.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the stabbing, or who has CCTV footage, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
