A teenager has been arrested after allegedly evading police and crashing a stolen car on Monday night.

Geelong highway patrol officers said they first spotted the silver Mazda on the Princes Hwy about 8pm.

Police tried to intercept the car on Purnell Rd in Corio but it allegedly sped off.

Officers said they then circled back to the Princes Hwy and found the allegedly stolen vehicle had collided with a white ute at the Bacchus Marsh Rd intersection.

Police said the male driver of the allegedly stolen Mazda, a 15-year-old, fled on foot but was arrested a short time later.

He was taken to hospital under police guard with minor injuries.

The driver and two passengers of the white ute were not injured in the crash.
