A Grinch on the loose in Lara stole kids’ Christmas presents from outside a family’s front door in a brazen daylight robbery.
Police are investigating the incident after the thieves also stole packages from another home nearby.
Alexia Boland Herrick had Christmas gifts for her young children from Target and Big W delivered to her Pelican Way home on November 14.
“I wasn’t expecting the deliveries to come (that day),” she said.
“We were home but had left for an hour and that is when the deliveries came.”
Just before 12pm, a silver sedan, with no registration plates, reversed into Mrs Boland Herrick’s driveway and a man wearing a dark, hooded jumper exited the car.
He then picked up the Big W box and placed it in the vehicle before pinching the two other packages.
“It was a bit of a shock,” Mrs Boland Herrick said.
“I was so disappointed.
“It seems like a pre-planned effort to go around and help themselves.”
The incident was reported to Lara police and officers were investigating, she said.
“We’re worried they might be following the route of the delivery driver,” Mrs Boland Herrick said.
“Another woman put a package out for a courier to collect and there is footage of the same people taking that package.”
Mrs Boland Herrick said she had been told the boxes were found empty along the railway line in Lara, a known dumping spot.
“My worry is it might be a scheme happening,” she said.
“Leading into Christmas, this might ramp up because people are doing it tough with cost of living.”
“I’d hate for anyone else to go through this leading into Christmas.”
Mrs Boland Herrick had her Australia Post delivery settings defaulted to allowing posties to leave packages at the front door.
“It’s a good lesson to check your settings … I’ve now gone in and changed it,” she said.
“It was a hard lesson to learn.
“It’s definitely hurt the hip pocket.”
Police urged anyone with information or dashcam or CCTV footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
