The Geelong community is rallying behind a Charlemont man who was taken to hospital in critical condition after becoming involved in a serious car crash.

Brian Finley, 32, was involved in a car accident on September 6 and was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital that day.

Mr Finley is still in hospital in a serious condition and has not regained full function, having suffered a traumatic brain injury.

Caitlyn Tedford, alongside her partner Matthew Dean, set up a GoFundMe page titled “Brian’s Recovery” to support Mr Finley’s family and have raised $4300 so far.

“He still hasn’t fully woken up. His brain injury is the biggest concern at the moment, he can move his right side but not his left side,” Ms Tedford said.

“He’s got quite a big family, lots of siblings, so he is around his family a lot. His mum and dad and family are doing it rough.

“We are just trying to raise as much money as possible so we can give it to his wife.

“They are really just starting off their lives, they have just built a house, got married and have a child on the way”.

Mr Dean said Mr Finley is a car enthusiast who absolutely loves his hot rods.

“He loves helping anyone he can. He’s one of those blokes you can call on when you need to, so for him to be in this position is really hard,” Mr Dean said.

“We also managed to get Gary Ablett on board as well. I had a good chat with him about it.”

Ms Tedford said she was thankful for all the community donations which will help out Mr Finley’s family.

“It’s just been a steady stream of donations ever since. I think it makes everyone feel included in Brian’s recovery,” she said.

“There are so many of us who are just waiting and hoping that he gets better and I think that it helps that everyone has something positive to look at and see how many people actually care.”

It is alleged the accident occurred in Grovedale when a man attempted to undertake a U-turn.

Mr Finley was the passenger in the car while detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit charged the 29-year-old driver of the car with dangerous driving causing serious injury.

The driver will face court at a later date.
