The Geelong College has cemented its place as the region’s best school by recording the highest median VCE study score of 33, while Oberon and Belmont are the best performing state schools.
The private coeducational school, which charges $32,544 for year 12, also boasted the highest proportion of study scores of 40 and above in the 2023 VCE results – 13.4 per cent.
Oberon High and Belmont High achieved the highest median study score (29) of all the region’s state schools, with 5.5 per cent and 2.6 per cent of study scores of 40 and above respectively.
Other top performing schools included Kardinia International College with a median study score of 32 and 12.4 per cent of study scores above 40; Geelong Grammar (32); Sacred Heart (32); St Joseph’s College (30); Saint Ignatius College (30) and Clonard College (30).
Belmont High School acting principal Joshua Baker said all staff were “incredibly proud” of the graduating class of 2023.
“They have worked hard to obtain results they deserve,” Mr Baker said.
“While the results are excellent it is the way this group made the most of all the opportunities that Belmont high has to offer that will support them moving forward.
“This group have shone in a range of areas including the arts, music, leadership, sporting & now also with their academic results.”
Mr Baker said the school’s dux, Oscar Waring, was a “shining example” of this – obtaining an ATAR of 99.7 while also representing the school musically and academically.
Sacred Heart College principal Anna Negro said the school was “extremely proud of our students and staff for their hard work and dedication this year”.
The school’s dux, Ella Colquhoun (pictured) scored 99.05.
Geelong College principal, Dr Peter Miller, said the school’s median study score was “cause for celebration”.
“They are a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our staff and students and the rich learning opportunities the College provides,” he said.
“I would like to thank everyone who has worked with these students over their time at the College.
“Some students have been with us a matter of months while others have been with us for 14 years.
“Nevertheless, the impact of each and every member of staff on these students is important in shaping their experiences and providing them with opportunities into the future.”
