Geelong region leading the state’s vaccination race

New data has revealed how the Geelong region’s Covid-19 vaccination rate compares to the rest of the country.

THE GEELONG region is Victoria’s most vaccinated area, according to the latest federal government data.

More than 91 per cent of the eligible population have received their first Covid-19 jab, with 62.6 per cent fully vaccinated.

The Warrnambool and southwest region came a close second, with a fully vaccinated population of 62.2 per cent.

On a local council level, Greater Geelong tipped a 90.6 per cent first jab rate, up from 86.5 per cent the week before.

Data also revealed 61.4 per cent of the city’s population are fully vaccinated as of Sunday.

On the Surf Coast, 71.8 per cent of people 15 and over had received both doses of a vaccine up from 67.1 per cent the week before.

Numbers were also up in Queenscliffe, with 87.7 per cent of the eligible population fully vaccinated.

Colac-Otway and Golden Plains Shires reached 87.4 and 89 per cent first jab rates, respectively. Both shires have more than 55 per cent of their eligible populations fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Barwon Health spokeswoman Kate Bibby welcomed the news and urged people to get the jab.

“Vaccines are one of the most effective tools to protect your health, your family’s health and the community’s health,” she said.

“Demand has remained strong for vaccination and there are more dose one appointments available.”
