Footage has emerged showing the terrifying moment an out of control bus smashed into traffic lights at a nearby school.
A dashcam video showing the shocking crash, which happened just outside East Geelong High School on Thursday about 6.10pm, emerged on social media over the weekend.
The video, taken from a car travelling north along Garden St, shows the out of control McHarry’s bus ploughing through the garden of the Shenton Performing Arts Theatre before knocking over a power pole, a set of traffic lights and coming to a halt.
The traffic lights narrowly miss a white ute turning onto Ryrie St heading towards Portarlington.
Good Samaritans can then be seen jumping out of their car, and rush to the bus.
Four people were taken to hospital in ambulances following the crash.
All were discharged by Friday morning.
The man who posted the video said via social media “I was shaking but I am all right now, not driving for a while”.
A local resident who was one of the first people at the scene described the intersection as “notoriously dangerous”.
Hayden Formosa, who was sitting towards the rear of the McHarry’s bus when it careered through the intersection, said he “noticed the light was red at the intersection and we started going faster and faster”.
“The bus went off the road up the gutter, took out the power pole, then took out a massive tree, then the traffic lights,” Mr Formosa.
“I was shocked.”
McHarry’s general manager David Doig confirmed the driver suffered a medical episode.
“McHarry’s regrets the incident involving one of its drivers and buses that occurred on Ryrie Street,” he said.
