The Geelong Arts Centre is on the lookout for a new boss after chief executive and creative director Joel McGuinness announced he was moving on.
Mr McGuinness will leave his job of six years at the end of April to take on the role as State Library of Victoria’s executive director of experience.
“I am beyond proud of what we have all accomplished as a team and (I am) excited for the future,” he said.
The departure comes six months after the $140m redevelopment of the Arts Centre was completed.
Geelong Performing Arts Centre Trust chair Lesley Alway said Mr McGuinness led the organisation into a new era.
“With the support of an amazing team, his visionary leadership and dedication delivered a stunning news Art Centre for Geelong and the broader region, indeed for all Victorians,” she said.
“His energy and ideas inspired innovation and collaboration across the arts and cultural sector.
“Joel’s commitment to artistic excellence and community impact is an important legacy that will resonate for years to come.”
Mr McGuinness said he was excited for his next chapter.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to play my part in shaping cultural experiences and contributing to the library’s bold vision of being a must-do experience in Victoria,” he said.
Library chief executive Paul Duldig said its civic spaces were a hub of activity that included exhibitions, conversations and events.
“Joel brings a wealth of experience and leadership, and we look forward to his vision for delivering world-class cultural experiences for Victoria,” he said.
