Driver in head-on crash at Bell Post Hill after couch left on road

The Alfred has provided an update on a driver who struck a couch on a Geelong road, leading to a head-on collision.

A driver remains in a critical but stable condition at The Alfred following a two-car crash at Bell Post Hill on Saturday night.

The woman in her 70s was driving on Creamery Rd, Bell Post Hill just before 8pm when she hit a couch then collided with another car head on.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said the woman in her 70s was flown to The Alfred about an hour after the crash.

She was treated at the scene for a serious head injury, lacerations and bruising, and was in a serious but stable condition.

On Sunday, a spokeswoman for The Alfred said the woman was in a critical but stable condition.

Geelong Highway Patrol Sergeant Peter Radford said the 74-year-old woman sustained life threatening injuries and was in the intensive care unit.

“We are trying to work out if the couch was left in the middle of the road or if it fell from a vehicle,” Sgt Radford told the Addy.

Sgt Radford urged anyone with information about how the couch was left on Creamery Rd to contact Crime Stoppers.

The Ambulance Victoria spokesman said a women in her 20s and two primary-school-aged children in the second car were treated for minor injuries at the scene and taken to Geelong hospital for observation.
