An elderly man sustained serious injuries when he was hit by a car in Belmont on Friday night.
Victoria Police spokeswoman Caitlin Knight said it was believed a red Ford Falcon was travelling along High St when a male pedestrian was struck about 7.30pm.
“The pedestrian, a 76-year-old Bell Post Hill man, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment,” she said.
“The driver, a 21-year-old Newtown man, stopped at the scene and is currently assisting police with their inquiries.”
Ambulance Victoria said a man believed to be in his 70s was transported by road ambulance to Geelong hospital with upper body injuries.
Uniformed officers were diverting traffic at the intersection of High St and Regent St with police tape and witches hats cordoning off the street.
One witness described debris and items of clothing on the road.
