Covid cases revealed for Geelong on Sunday; 15 active in Colac

Postcode data has shed light on the spread of Covid across the Geelong region. The municipality recorded five new cases on Sunday.

Five new Covid-19 cases have been recorded in Geelong, amid another day of “stark” infection numbers and record testing in Victoria.

Victorian Covid Commander Jeroen Weimar on Sunday announced the state had recorded 1220 new Covid-19 cases and three more deaths, with 11,785 active cases of Covid-19 now in Victoria.

Two of the new cases were in the 3222 postcode – which includes Drysdale, Clifton Springs, Curlewis and Wallington – while single cases were reported in 3223, 3212 and 3214.

Across the City of Greater Geelong there were 43 active cases listed on Sunday, with nine cases in the 3215 postcode – taking in the suburbs of Bell Park, Bell Post Hill, Drumcondra, Hamlyn heights, North Geelong and Rippleside.

Postcodes with the next most active cases were 3212 with seven cases, 3223 (six cases), 3214, 3219 and 3224 (four cases), 3222 (three cases), 3216 and 3220 (two cases) and 3213, 3218 and 3226 (one case).

Authorities also received a record 71,275 test results over the past 24 hours, Mr Weimar said.

Of Victoria’s new Covid-19 cases, 52 were recorded in regional areas, including five in Geelong, nine in Mitchell Shire, eight in Shepparton, seven in Latrobe and four in Ballarat.

“The regional picture looks reasonably stable,” Mr Weimar said on Sunday morning.

Geelong’s new Covid-19 numbers have slowly decreased since the nine announced on Friday, and seven announced on Saturday.

No new local exposure sites had been listed during the weekend, as of midday Sunday.
