A woman accused of driving with a suspended licence has had her vehicle impounded by police for a second time in a matter of weeks.

The driver was one of several across the region nabbed by Geelong highway patrol officers as part of a summer crackdown.

Leading Senior Constable Mick McKay said a woman, aged in her 20s, was pulled over for a routine license check along Thompson Rd in Geelong on January 8.

Constable McKay said the woman was driving with a suspended license.

The woman’s black Mercedes coup was impounded, at a cost of $1027, for the second time in a number of weeks.

The woman is expected to face Geelong Magistrates Court at a later date.

On January 10, police intercepted a man aged in his 40s after he was allegedly spotted driving erratically along High St, Belmont at 10.45pm.

Constable McKay said the man was pulled over n

ear the Belmont Village Shopping Centre and allegedly returned a positive result for cannabis during a roadside drug test.

“The driver admitted to officers that he had smoked cannabis 10 minutes prior and had gone out because he needed to do some shopping,” Constable McKay said.

Police are awaiting the results of a drug toxicology test.

Constable McKay said if the results came back positive the man would be fined $545 and lose his licence for six months.

On January 14, two vehicles driving in convoy were intercepted by police after allegedly driving suspiciously along back roads in Corio about 11pm.

A woman in her 30s was fined $925 for allegedly driving an unregistered white Holden ute.

Constable McKay said the driver of the second vehicle, a man in his 20s, refused an oral fluid test by police.

“There are inquiries being made into his license and he will be summoned to the Geelong Magistrates Court at a later date,” Constable McKay said.

“It is quite common for officers to patrol back roads across Corio as offenders do use them to avoid main roads.”
