Firefighters in Lara are warning residents to be aware of a person selling fire extinguishers to the public.

In a message on Facebook, the Lara Country Fire Authority said they have been made aware that someone wearing yellow firefighting gear was going door-to-door selling the equipment.

It’s alleged the person was also using pressure techniques and misrepresenting themselves as being from the CFA or “Lara Fire”.

“This individual has no connection to Lara Fire Brigade or the CFA and we do not condone their behaviour towards the Lara community” they said in a statement.

“Any fundraising done by Lara volunteers is done using official branding and CFA ID. We do not sell items door-to-door.”

Victoria police have been contacted for comment.

According to the CFA ACT 1958 - SECT 107A, a person must not use any name, title or description to imply an association with the Authority without their written consent.

The maximum penalty with the crime is 60 penalty units.

For the period 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025, the value of a penalty unit is set at $197.59.
