Geelong’s council has refused to comment on whether it has taken disciplinary action against a city communications and engagement officer accused of growing and trafficking cannabis.
Candice Murray Feurring, of Teesdale, did not enter pleas to any of the charges in the Geelong Magistrates Court on Thursday.
According to court documents, Ms Feurring is alleged to have trafficked cannabis as well as
cultivating, possessing and using the drug.
She was charged with the offences on March 7 this year.
The Geelong Advertiser put questions to Ms Feurring on Friday afternoon regarding the drug trafficking allegations and if she planned to continue to work with council.
In a late response she wrote: My position as communications and engagement officer with council is still current, to my knowledge. Regarding the allegations you outline. The matter is before the court and I respect the court process. I intend to let that process takes its course.”
According to her LinkedIn profile, Ms Feurring lists environmental sustainability as one of her areas of expertise.
On Friday, the Geelong Advertiser asked council if Ms Feurring was currently employed with the city, if she had been stood down, and what council’s policy was if an employee was charged with drug trafficking.
A council spokeswoman said it did not comment on personnel matters.
The case will return to court on July 17 for a committal mention.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Ms Feurring has served at Brimbank City Council, Wyndham City Council and the City of Greater Geelong.
In 2015 she helped to organise the World Reggae Jam in Geelong.
“The event will showcase Jamaican reggae and conscious original roots music, spreading a message of unity, respect and peace,” she told the Geelong Independent at the time.
