Freddie Price left school in an ambulance on his first day of prep. Now, seven years later, he’s finishing his time at Bellbrae Primary School the same way he started it – with a broken arm.

Jan Juc’s Freddie Price broke his arm just minutes before the bell on his first day of prep and now, on his last day of primary school, he’s again nursing a broken arm.
For his mother, Sally Price, the unusual coincidence makes it seem like no time has passed, while Freddie thinks it’s all just a laugh.
“My mum doesn’t find it funny though,” he said.
Ms Price recalled the initial incident at Bellbrae Primary School where parents had gathered next to the playground before screams drowned out their chatter.
“He was leaving school in an ambulance before it even started,” she said.
“They had to cut his brand new little polo off him … sending him off into surgery still in his little school uniform.
“He went back to school the next week and got a well done award for being so brave.”
Ms Price said Freddie made it through primary school without any more breaks.
That was until November when he broke the same arm in a footy tackle.
At Bellbrae Primary’s graduation on Wednesday, Ms Price said Freddie’s injury was again a key talking point among parents.
“But at least this time it’s not as bad,” she said.
Freddie will join his brother at St Joseph’s College next year.
Both Freddie and Ms Price are excited about the next chapter, but both are feeling an edge of sadness at saying goodbye to the current one.
“It’s a big change, from having them so close,” she said.
“You go from primary school where everything is so small and so close and so easy, to sending them on the bus at 7.15 every morning.
“But I’m hoping Freddie just loves it.”
Freddie said he was excited for year 7 and hoped he wouldn’t break his arm again before the first bell.
“I’m not looking forward to getting up so early to get the bus to Geelong though,” he said.
