Ocean Grove’s public swimming pool will close for most of June as council undertakes urgent works.
The pool hall and reception centre at Bellarine Aquatic and Sports Centre will shut from June 2-30.
The City of Greater Geelong said the pool hall’s extraction fan had reached the end of its operational life and would be replaced.
It said the pool’s ageing roof would also be replaced to ensure ongoing safety and functionality.
A council spokeswoman said the works would cost $989,024.
During this time, community members will be able to enter the centre through the Shell Rd side of the building, with reception temporarily relocated to the cycle room.
The gym, Motivate30, Gymnastics, studio-based group exercise classes and the stadium will all remain open and continue as scheduled.
Crank classes will be held at North Bellarine Aquatic Centre.
Additional Aqua Aerobics classes have been scheduled at Splashdown Leisure Centre and Leisurelink Aquatic & Recreation Centre.
Webstar’s Swim School classes will be relocated or automatically suspended.
Community members enrolled in the program have been emailed with specific information about their options.
Deputy Mayor Ron Nelson thanked the community for its patience.
“We appreciate your understanding during this time and apologise for the inconvenience,” Mr Nelson said.
“These essential upgrades to Bellarine Aquatic & Sports Centre are set to improve the facility’s functionality as well as user experience.
“We hope the community will show its support for the Surfside Café when the repairs are complete and the centre reopens.”
Connewarre ward Councillor Elise Wilkinson reminded users that they had free reciprocal access built into their membership.
“During this period, members can visit the City’s other indoor and outdoor Swim Sport & Leisure centres at no extra cost,” Cr Wilkinson said.
“The most convenient nearby options are North Bellarine in Drysdale, Moolap’s Splashdown and Leisurelink at Waurn Ponds.”
