Plans to introduce a multimillion-dollar service station along the Bellarine Highway by getting rid of an existing one have been lodged to Geelong council.

Geelong-based APCO, which has 27 stores across NSW and Victoria, is looking to replace the existing Mobil service station by transforming it into a $3m development.

The site is being proposed to be built at 806-812 Bellarine Highway in Leopold and will demolish the existing service station.

According to planning documents prepared by Context Planning, the new single-storey service station would also have a convenience shop and cafe.

The service station will also feature eight double side fuel pumps and 25 carparking spaces.

The documents state: “The proposed buildings are contemporary in design and reflective of the APCO image.”

“The buildings are designed to activate the presentation to the Bellarine Highway with the cafe element located to this end of the building, and the provision of large buildings,” the documents stated.

Business identification is proposed on the building, with all of the on building signage being non-illuminated.

It is intended that the service station will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

They are also expecting to complete their $8.5m service station in Mt Duneed in the coming months after beginning construction earlier this year, despite submitting original plans in 2015.

APCO also submitted plans 12 months ago to turn their East Geelong station into a national concept store which would feature streamlined shelving, a new console service area, storage and small office along with cool room for the use of the travelling public.

According to its website APCO specialises in petrol, auto gas, convenience and a food service offering under the cafe24-7 banner.

APCO also operate their own kitchen production facility from their support office in Geelong which supplies many of their sites with fresh made food.

The public has until December 7 to provide feedback on the plans to council.

APCO declined to comment.
