An alleged booze bandit fronted Geelong Magistrates Court on Wednesday, accused of stealing about $200,000 worth of goods during a months-long shoplifting spree.

Karamvir Singh, 26, of Truganina, was charged with 102 counts of theft after being arrested by specialist police in HoppersCrossing on Tuesday.

A police spokeswoman said Mr Singh was allegedly responsible for stealing about $200,000 of goods, predominantly alcohol, since December 2023.

The alleged offences occurred in Victoria and interstate, but no details were read out during the court mention.

Mr Singh was arrested by officers from Victoria Police’s fugitive squad, in conjunction with the Geelong liquor licensing unit.

The court heard Mr Singh, who did not apply for bail, would require a Punjabi interpreter at the next hearing, which would be a plea hearing.

His lawyer Caetlyn Wells-Simon asked the court to accommodate Mr Singh in person for the hearing, rather than via videolink.

“Given his English, it would be better if he appeared in person,” she said.

She also said Mr Singh was overdue for a methadone injection and would “need to see the nurse very quickly”.

Mr Singh is due to return to court on October 8.
