Geelong has hit 90,000 members for the first time in its history as its prepares for its qualifying final clash against Port Adelaide next Thursday.
The Cats had already surpassed their all-time record of 82,155 of 2023 in June but has added close to 8,000 members since then.
The AFL announced in June that the league had set its own all-time record for AFL club memberships, with Collingwood, West Coast and Richmond leading the way at that point.
Nearly a third (32.2 per cent) of the Cats’ current membership base hail from Geelong.
Geelong’s has set membership records in its last four seasons and 11 of the past 12 years as the Cats continue to achieve on-field success.
Geelong chief executive Steve Hocking said it was a credit to not only AFL fans but also the passionate support of their AFLW side, which starts its campaign against Melbourne at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday.
“With more than 90,000 members and more than 275,000 fans attending games at GMHBA Stadium this year, our members contribute to a Team of All effort like no other and achieving this is only made possible by the unwavering support of each and every one of you,” Hocking said.
“The next month is set to be big, with our AFL and VFL teams chasing prosperous finals campaigns, and our AFLW team kickstarting their 2024 season in front of hopefully a jam-packed home crowd at GMHBA Stadium.
“Last season, we also set a Club record for AFLW memberships and led the competition with the largest AFLW membership base. With the start of our 2024 AFLW campaign just days away, we’re well on track to beat last year’s record and are striving for 10,000 members for the first time.
“On behalf of the Geelong Football Club, I would like to take this opportunity to thank every single member. Your support and passion are unmistakably Geelong, and you all play a significant role in helping us succeed on and off the field.”
Geelong AFLW memberships are now available, with existing members able to purchase an AFLW add-on for $25 and new memberships starting from $55.
