Geelong Cats: Tom Stewart leads Addy MVP with perfect game

Tom Stewart’s impact in the middle of the ground was not understated, with the fans voting for the vice-captain in record-breaking fashion.

Tom Stewart has won the fans’ vote in the Addy MVP in the biggest landslide of the season so far after a dominant performance in the loss to Brisbane.

The vice-captain had 25 disposals, nine marks and five tackles in the 11-point loss to the Lions, with coach Chris Scott inserting him into the midfield as the Cats suffered a dramatic clearance loss.

As a result, Stewart polled 84 per cent of the fan votes in the Addy MVP, which is the biggest percentage for one player all season.

Skipper Patrick Dangerfield was awarded second best on ground behind Stewart, with the Brownlow Medalist pushing through a head knock with Dayne Zorko to collect 17 possessions and boot two goals in the final push for victory.

Dangerfield earned seven per cent of the votes, ahead of winger Isaac Smith, who had 17 disposals, nine marks and 431 metres gained in the contest.

Smith ended on four per cent of the votes, while Mitch Duncan, Jack Bowes and Mark Blicavs all ended on two per cent each.

Duncan had 23 touches, nine marks, two tackles and 344 metres gained, Bowes had 24 disposals, five marks and 514 metres gained, and Blicavs had 18 touches, seven marks, three tackles and 10 hit outs in the contest.

The dominant Stewart performance extends his lead at the top of both the fan and the expert vote, with the defensive superstar now 23 votes ahead of Esava Ratugolea and Gryan Miers in the fans vote.

Stewart also owns a clear lead over Miers in the expert’s voting, with Jeremy Cameron rounding out the top three.
