GDFL: Thomson coach surprised by form of own team

The Tigers are sitting pretty at the top of the ladder, but their rise to the top of the GDFL has even caught their own coach by surprise.

Even Thomson coach Paul Lynch has been surprised at his side’s strong form to start the season, with the Tigers sitting at the top of the GDFL ladder undefeated after six rounds.

Thomson has a dominant percentage of 252.3 per cent, and has recorded massive wins over Anakie (180 points), Corio (94 points), and Geelong West (60 points) so far this season.

Lynch said he expected the group to be stronger than last year, but he was not sure where the Tigers would fall in the pecking order of the competition.

“All the other sides have come up a bit too, I didn’t know where we would fall in the pecking order but I knew we would be improving on last year,” he said.

“I still think there’s not much between the first seven or eight teams, if you don’t turn up or come to play then almost anyone can knock you off, those bottom four sides of the competition can be dangerous on their days as well.

“Corio and Belmont have both improved, Belmont were 40 points up on us at one point and were playing really good footy.

“I did think we’d be stronger than we were last year, adding Darcy Troop and Nathan Bisset, as well as guys like Brent Jacques, Andrew Jarvis and Jahd Anderson, I did think we were going to improve.”

Thomson enjoyed a strong off-season, landing Nathan Bisset, Brent Jacques and Alex Jolley from Belmont, Daniel Mowat from Mitiamo, and Darcy Troop from Newtwon & Chilwell, while Andrew Jarvis, Jah Anderson and Lleyton Thulborn all made their returns to the club.

Out of the group of incomers, Anderson has missed one game, Jolley and Jacques have missed two each, while Mowat has managed just one game, while Bisset, Troop and Jarvis have played every game.
