HOLLYWOOD megastar Chris Hemsworth silenced a bustling Qantas hanger today when he delivered the country’s latest appeal to US tourists.
“Australia isn’t just a place you see, it’s a place you feel,” echoed through Sydney Airport, filled with a star-studded list of Aussie legends, including Olympic swimming champion Ian Thorpe, master chef Neil Perry and 17-year-old X-factor winner Isaiah Firebrace.
Hemsworth was narrating the latest Australian tourism video, which has been adopted by G’Day USA to lure American tourists Down Under.
The clip features stunning coastlines, bushland and mouth-watering platters of oysters and prawns.
The video is airing in America to encourage US tourists to visit Australia.
“There’s nothing like Chris Hemsworth’s voice in the morning to put a smile on the Foreign (Affairs) Minister’s face,” TV star Richard Wilkins joked shortly after the video was aired at the airport.
Julie Bishop took to stage to declare the US Australia’s most crucial ally.
“In a time of unprecedented change with ever-shifting global dynamics it is more important than ever to treasure the longstanding relationships to recognise the true nature of a relationship that has survived through the good times and the tough times,” Ms Bishop said.
“There is no more important relationship to Australia than ours with the United States of America.
“The United States is our regions’ security guarantor. Our major defence partner, the largest source of foreign direct investment and our second largest trading partner for goods and services.
“Like any relationship it has to be nurtured to ensure it is not taken for granted ... this is where G’Day USA comes into it’s own.”
X-factor winner Isaiah Firebrace closed the event with a powerful rendition of Sam Cook’s A Change Is Gonna Come.
Much like Hemsworth, the talented singer managed to drown out the sound of jet engines and leave the crowd of business and political elites speechless.
