Design images for the new Waurn Ponds sports complex have been released for the first time, with the planned facility containing provision for a “future show court” with retractable seating.
Works are due to begin on the project at Ghazeepore Rd, Mt Dundeed, in the middle of this year and be finished by early 2027.
The new facility includes a high-ball stadium with six courts and retractable seating, a regional level gymnastics hub, a dance hall and car parking with up to 310 spaces plus electric vehicle charging spaces.
In documents seen by this masthead, the project promises to ensure a “lasting legacy for the Geelong region”.
A State Government spokesperson said several information sessions were held earlier in the month, both at the Waurn Ponds Library and online.
“Planning for the Waurn Ponds Sporting Complex is well underway, and we were pleased to share the renders for the new design recently so the community can picture the fantastic facility we’re building,” the spokesperson said.
Community feedback is open until April 24.
