New $30 million police station at Liverpool to be one of the biggest in the state

LIVERPOOL’S police station has tripled in size and it’s set to be one of the biggest in the state, with 210 officers to work there.

LIVERPOOL’S new police station is set to be one of the biggest in the state.

The $28.9 million facility is due to open in early June, boasting a building three times the size of the current command, that can house 210 officers.

On Monday, the Liverpool Leader joined Police Minister and Deputy Premier Troy Grant, Liverpool police Superintendent Peter Gillam and State Member for Holsworthy Melanie Gibbons for a tour of the precinct.

“There’s no doubt that the (current) police station wasn’t what they call fit for purpose,” Mr Grant said.

“It’s not just about making it fit today, it’s about future-proofing it as well.”

As Sydney’s newest law and order precinct, the state-of-the-art facility will feature advanced technological and IT capabilities to improve crime prevention functionality.

“The technology’s an important part,” Mr Grant said.

“We’re investing $100 million into the Policing For Tomorrow fund so the commander here ultimately will have his troops out and about in the street doing their work with a lot more mobile technology.”

The station comes to a cost of $28.9 million.

The new station, which sits adjacent to Liverpool Court, will also house several commands and units including the Proactive Crime Team, Highway Patrol, Crime Management Unit, Criminal Investigators and Task Force facilities.

Touring the George St facility feels a bit like walking through a maze.

The three-storey building houses a staggering number of rooms, corridors and offices, while the station’s holding cells link directly to the courthouse.

“Something I’m very happy about is the connectivity within the justice precinct here,” Mr Grant said.

“That saves time and money at court and corrective services and at the police end.”

Superintendent Gillam said the increased police presence would aid Liverpool Council’s efforts in making the area safer.
