FROM a small location in Castle Hill, a business that employs less that 50 people is leading the world in technology keeping miners safe underground.
Nautitech Mining Systems has designed, created and manufactured a thermal camera, the only one in the world that can be safely used underground. And now they want to market their Aussie ingenuity to the world.
General manager Alex Lester said the company wants to stay an industry innovator.
“We recently won the Peabody Energy global award for innovation for our thermal camera. We are world leaders in this area and the product is used by all the big companies — Peabody Energy, Rio Tinto and BHP,” Mr Lester said. “But we want to keep innovating to keep the place safe.”
Nautitech is nominated in the Workplace of the Future category of The Telegraph and NewsLocal’s Champions Of The West awards, a grants competition for the Fair Go For The West campaign that consists of 14 categories, each offering a $10,000 grant.
If they win the $10,000 grant, Mr Lester said he plans to use the money for international market research.

The 2015 grants program is expanded this year to acknowledge the achievements of Western Sydney innovators and those making a difference in their community and respective fields.
This year’s categories include small business, education, sport, and the arts.
The Sunday Telegraph, The Daily Telegraph and NewsLocal — together with corporate partners NAB, NRMA, Crown, UWS, Origin Energy, Harvey Norman, and TAFE WSi — will reward those excelling in their fields.
