Princess Eugenie just can’t win after Prince Harry and Meghan’s royal wedding

IT’S the Duchess vs the Princess and this week, at least, Princess Eugenie is losing. Eugenie is getting married at the same venue where Prince Harry and Meghan tied the knot in May and recently announced she is also letting the public in for her event.

IT’S the duchess vs the princess and this week, at least, Princess Eugenie is losing.

Eugenie, who is marrying Jack Brooksbank in St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, in October, the same venue where Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex tied the knot in May, recently announced she is also letting the public in for her event.

Like Harry and Meghan, 1200 ticket holders will watch the arrival of the congregation, Royal Family and bridal party and see the couple head off on a short carriage ride after the ceremony.

Also present on the day will be representatives invited from the charities the couple supports as well as local community members and schoolchildren. Eugenie is patron of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital’s Redevelopment Appeal, the Elephant Family charity and the Teenage Cancer Trust, among others.

People can apply for tickets at publicevents.royal.uk.

Unkindly, in the UK she was criticised for having a “preposterously lavish wedding”, alleging she was far too lowly a royal to have a fancy wedding and was shamelessly copying Harry and Meghan.

So upset was her mother Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, she posted a letter on social media written by Sarah Wade, CEO of Humanitas Charity, of which Fergie is patron, hitting out at the malicious allegations.

Eugenie is in a lose-lose situation. Every bride wants to feel like a princess on their wedding day and she actually is one, but perversely is therefore meant to damp down her day and have a quiet ’do instead.

Why? It’s her wedding day – if she wants to have a Big Fat Gypsy Wedding-style extravaganza and arrive in a pumpkin, it’s up to her. PS: Please do.

She couldn’t very well not invite the public after Harry and Meghan’s egalitarian love-fest or she would look stuffy and stand-offish.

And as for competing with the Markle Sparkle — admittedly she could have held the ceremony in a different venue to the most exciting royal wedding in modern history, in order to avoid comparisons. But Windsor is her home — she’s having her evening reception in the family house the Royal Lodge, which is shared by her father Prince Andrew and her mum Fergie.

She grew up and went to school there. So naturally she wants to marry there.

As any self-respecting Downton Abbey fan knows, a princess way outranks a duchess, so if Eugenie wants to act like a little princess over her dream wedding, it’s not for us to say she’s being a nightmare.

At least she doesn’t have many embarrassing rellies to ruin her nuptials — the worst was her own mum, but Fergie has long been forgiven, unlike Meghan, whose family members continue to be royal pains.

Her father Thomas Markle is still moaning about why his daughter is cross with him (we repeat, you ditched her at her own wedding, buddy), so she is reportedly planning to fly over to the States to see her family and friends/have a little holiday/shut him up.

Shame she can’t do the same for her half-sister Samantha who this week dropped hints she’s going to appear on the UK’s Celebrity Big Brother, telling Good Morning Britain, “We all have to survive, money makes the world goes around — if you want to call that cashing in.”

We’re sure Meghan can think of a lot of things to call it, which is probably why she’s saying nothing.
