CALLOUS thieves made off with the hard-earned holiday savings of an elderly Kempsey woman who was watering her garden when she was robbed.
The 89-year-old woman was heading back into her home on Lachlan Street in South Kempsey when she saw a man run from the back door clutching her handbag.
The distinctive floral bag with beads had inside it thousands of dollars the woman had saved to take her son on holiday.
A returned servicewoman, the elderly victim was traumatised by the incident and was unable to provide police with a description of the thief or of a man he met up with in a neighbouring yard.
Police conducted a search of the area but were unable to locate the men.
