Drug advocate calls for over-the-counter sales of ecstasy at stores and chemists

• A leading drug reform campaigner who is an advocate for pill testing at music festivals and directs a think tank which produces drug education resources for schools wants the drug ­ecstasy — or MDMA — to be regulated and sold in stores such as pharmacies.

Dr Alex Wodak, a “harm minimisation” campaigner and head of the Australian Drug Law Reform Foundation, said the “proper regulation” of cannabis and MDMA would lower the risks of the drugs and pharmacies could be a place to sell the pills.

AND IN SPORT

Shane Flanagan and the Cronulla Sharks could be headed to court as the former coach fights for his future.

Flanagan is facing a lengthy suspension from the NRL after being deregistered in late December for defying an NRL edict which prevented him contacting club officials ­during his 12-month peptide ban.

The 53-year-old has until tomorrow to respond to a breach notice from the NRL, and it’s understood he will claim the majority of emails he sent were in response to correspondence initiated by club staff.
