A MAN accused of murdering a young mother and her two-year-old daughter allegedly told two people he had killed the pair.
Daniel James Holdom, 41, allegedly made “graphic admissions,” to two people in relation to the murders of Karlie Jade Pearce-Stevenson, 20 and her daughter, Khandalyce, 2, whose bodies were found 1200km apart in different states.
It is alleged another two people were involved in the “aftermath” of the murders.
Crown prosecutor Victoria Engel told a committal hearing there were five witnesses who would give evidence against Holdom and asked that their identities be suppressed to protect their safety.
“Witness one and two have made statements implicating the accused in the murders,” Ms Engel told the court
“Witness five allegedly received an admission by the accused that he had killed the two persons but he didn’t report that.”
Ms Engel also said two of the witnesses (numbered two and three) were induced to make a statement to police.
She said that because it will be some time before the case goes to trial it was important that a non-publication order be placed on their identities to protect their safety.
Holdom has pleaded not guilty to the murders of Ms Pearce-Stevenson and Khandalyce sometime in December 2008.
The remains of Ms Pearce-Stevenson, 20, were found in Belanglo State forest in NSW in 2010, but she remained unidentified until 2015 when the body of her two-year-old daughter Khandalyce was found inside a suitcase on the side of the road at Wynarka in South Australia.
The deaths were treated as unrelated until DNA testing found a positive match.
Holdom is accused of murdering Ms Pearce-Stevenson and dumping her body in the forest and then taking Khandalyce with him as he travelled to South Australia.
The prosecution case is that several people saw Khandalyce with Holdom several days after he allegedly killed the girl’s mother.
It is alleged Holdom killed the toddler while travelling to South Australia somewhere in the vicinity of Wagga Wagga, in the NSW Riverina, sometime between December 19 and December 20 2008.
Ms Pearce-Stevenson was last seen driving near Coober Pedy in South Australia in 2008 after leaving her home in Alice Springs to travel with her daughter.
Her identity, bank account and mobile phone were used for years after her murder although no one has been charged in relation to those allegations.
