Coomera Crushers rugby club are going back to the future with the appointment of former president Will Sim to replace outgoing president Troy Lavery.

Mr Lavery said he was stepping down from the role after two seasons to spend more time with his young family without the distraction of a time consuming role at the club.

“I love the club with my heart and soul and I’ll always be there for advice,” he said.

“It’s been bloody great to see the club progress over two years from being in pretty bad shape when I took over and now we’re certainly on the up and up.

“I’m very proud of my tenure and what the committee has achieved.”

While Mr Lavery said he hated to discuss his legacy at the club, the transformation under his watch has been significant.

Since Mr Lavery took the reigns at the end of 2017, Crushers are poised to field First and Second teams for the first time since the club’s 2001 formation.

Crushers will also field an Under-19s Colts team in the inaugural James O’Connor Cup, bringing back an important bridge between junior and senior rugby for the first time in nine years.
