Woman rescued after getting into trouble at Far North river

Emergency services have been called to a popular tourist spot north of Cairns after a swimmer got swept away by fast-moving water.
At 2pm paramedics and firefighters were called to Mossman Gorge in response to reports a swimmer had been pulled under water.
Three Queensland Fire Department crews were joined by Queensland Ambulance Service officers at the river 75kms northwest of Cairns.
“There were reports someone had gone under water and had resurfaced and had secured themselves onto a tree,” a spokesman said.
“We have had reports the person is out of the water on the other side of the river and crews are getting that person to the other side of the river.”
An QAS spokesman said a woman was being treated for minor injuries after being submerged for a period.
The woman is considered to be in a stable condition.
She is expected to be taken to Cairns Hospital via road ambulance.
The services of the Rescue 510 helicopter will not be required.
The latest rescue at Mossman Gorge follows the death of Melbourne dental assistant Vinh Chuong in 2023 after the 54-year-old was swept away by fast flowing water.
