A woman has fled a Far North Queensland hotel after booking a room with a fraudulent credit card and racking up a large unpaid bill.
The woman, captured on CCTV on January 23, had booked a room at a hotel on Abbott Street, in Cairn using a credit card to fraudulently to pay for several nights.
She also had a number of people staying with her who also charged multiple expenses to her room before staff became aware of the fraudulent transaction.
Senior Constable Heidi Marek said the woman fled when staff became aware and all bills were left unpaid.
“The woman had other people staying with her and booked multiple charges to her room that were left unpaid,” she said.
Now detectives from the Cairns Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are seeking public assistance in connection with the investigation.
“Following a series of fraudulent transactions last month, CIB are seeking public assistance in relation to a stealing investigation,” Constable Marek said.
The CIB is also looking into several additional fraudulent card transactions at local businesses around Cairns and the Tablelands, which took place between January 13 and January 24.
Anyone with information regarding the woman’s identity or the fraudulent transactions is urged to contact Cairns police or Crime Stoppers.
