A well-known Mossman publican has added three Gordonvale pubs to his portfolio, revealing renovations are on the cards for one “great old building”.
Paul McMahon, who also owns the Mossman Hotel, the Barrier Reef Tavern and Hughie’s - a newly updated wine bar in Mossman - said he wanted to give back to the Gordonvale community, where he now resides, and was a big proponent of spending money locally.
“We’re very much investors in the town. We try to buy everything locally and we think it’s important to give back to the community,” Mr McMahon said.
Mr McMahon bought the Parkview Hotel, Great Northern Hotel, and Ye Olde Gordonvale Hotel for an undisclosed amount and received the keys for all three on December 19, just in time for the Christmas and New Year’s rush.
Mr McMahon said he previously tried to buy The Parkview Hotel three years ago but was “beaten to the punch” by Far North Queensland pub baron Tom Hedley.
The newly renovated Parkview Hotel will continue to operate as normal, but will implement a new menu and streamlining the bistro.
“We’re certainly building on what Tom did before and we’re putting our own spin on it,” Mr McMahon said.
“But we’ll continue to look after all those who come to dine.”
Renovations are expected to take place at The Great Northern Hotel over the next 12 months.
“The Great Northern is a great old building that needs a bit of TLC to make it a safer building to operate in,” Mr McMahon said.
He said Ye Olde Gordonvale Hotel will continue to operate as a hotel however he will focus on streamlining operations “to get them running better.”
“But we’ll continue to operate it as is.”
